Mark your calendar Easter
weekend for the annual Jamesville NC Herring Festival!
For over half a century, these festivities
celebrated Spring by bringing together
local folk and visitors from afar for a taste of
local traditions.
Join us this year for a very special celebration
marking our 61st anniversary!
Though the activities surrounding
the festival have changed somewhat throughout the
years, its rich heritage and and spirit are still alive and well. Year after
year on Easter
weekend in Jamesville, you are guaranteed good food,
good fellowship,
good music and good fun!
Roads will be closed
from
noon on Friday, making way for the vendors to set up
and open around 5 pm. The festival officially
kicks off on Friday night with live music and a street
dance from 6-10pm.
Saturday, the festivities
continue all day where you are sure to find something
entertaining for the whole family.
Tammy’s Plant House will host an Easter Egg Hunt for
children ages 2 through 12.
Be sure
to bring a basket or bag for your children to put
their eggs in and a camera for photos with the live
Easter bunnies. Children will need to be supervised,
so plan to stay and enjoy the fun!
There is no cost for this event.
At the Cypress Grill and
River's
Edge Restaurant, you'll be delighted by the festival's
inspirational "herring" cooked up
fresh for your
dining pleasure. On top of "the hill" you
will find local civic clubs and churches
serving up all sorts of other tasty dishes and
treats (in addition to herring) including hot dogs, cheesesteaks, shrimp, oysters and many mouth
watering homemade desserts.
Local art and craft vendors will
line the streets all weekend to show off their talents and provide face painting for kids of all
ages. Various
bands will be on stage providing
your musical entertainment and Midway will open at
the soccer field with Children's rides.
Easter Sunday marks the last day
of the festival as events wind down.
Traditionally, there is an Easter sunrise service
at the Jamesville Town Cemetery. Sunday afternoon Gospel groups will
be performing on the main stage. Sunday
evening, when the sun goes down, fireworks by the local Fire & Rescue will
be a fitting finale to a unique Easter weekend to
remember.
